Enoch
EnochBy Ahmad Fami Ahmad Zain
In the previous topic (A gift from heaven), I have mentioned a person named Enoch. So who was he?
He was a prophet and known by four different names:-
1. Saurid
2. Hermes
3. Idris
4. Enoch
Jewish and Christian theology mentioned that he was the seventh of the ten original patriarchs before the flood. He was the father of Methuselah (who was the grandfather of Noah).
It is believed that he was the builder of the great Egyptian pyramids (according to geographer and historian Taki al-Makrizi). Taki, in his work Hitat, mentioned in Chapter 33:
“The first Hermes, known as the threefold one in his qualities of prophet, king and wise man……read in the stars that the flood would come. Then he ordained that the pyramids should be built and in them he hid treasures, texts and scripts, and everything which might otherwise be lose, so that they might be preserved”.
It is arguable, in my opinion, whether the pyramid mentioned above is referring to the great Egyptian pyramids or perhaps other pyramid which is yet to be fully explored. Remember that archeologists have discovered a pyramid which is believed much older and bigger than the Egyptian pyramids somewhere in South America. Whilst not impossible, however, Egyptian pyramids sound more acceptable if one were to base on geographical aspect. One might argue that this could not be possible since pyramid was built about 2,500BC (give and take about 5,000 years ago) and the great flood occurred about 13,000 years ago! Believe me when I tell you that these numbers keep on changing even as you blink your eyes.
In the Book of Enoch, it was mentioned how a group of the sons of heaven had sex with the children of men and as a result, giants were born. It was chaotic during this period until the ‘good sons of heaven’ (those who did not had lust for children of men) reported the matter to the highest one and hence, come the Great Flood.
But Enoch was fortunate since he did not have to deal with the flood. That belonged to Noah to deal with.
So, what happened to him? He was ascended to ‘heaven’ although he was not told by the angel the precise time and date of the ride. People were gathered around him when all of them saw figure of steed descended from heaven to earth. He then told his people that the time has come for him to leave them and see them no more. He told his people that they should not follow anywhere near him for the take-off would kill them (he was warned by the heavenly ones of this) but they refuse to budge since they want to have a last look and obviously to see him ascended.
Enoch was right, the poor people died.
